HOUR IN GLASS

A child who learns the ecstasy of flight, a young woman's ritual of grief, an old woman with wings; all summon forth the imaginative possibilities associated with escape from the confinement of earth bound limitations. The containment of the sand in the hourglass and its inevitable descent was the basis for the title's metaphor for mortality.  A cascade of sand begins the piece and a breaking mirror ends it.
